Well, another weekend of high-level Goats has passed, and one thing is certain: Jazz is the best active player in the modern era.
There's all kinds of variety in this final bracket. Fortunately for us we got to witness some action-packed duels as a result. We've got some great video coverage of these Day 2 matches, be sure to check it out!
Without Exarion Universe in the card pool, most players didn't expect to see many aggro decks, but it turns out there were some good ones in this tournament! Marco Gheri combined solid technical play with some innovative deck building ideas to achieve an impressive finish with his Gearfried Aggro deck.
I spent the entire semifinals going crazy on commentary over some of the card choices in this list. After Nate Honsou had some time after the event to explain them to me in greater detail, I started to see the light. Abyss Soldier may look silly in this Chaos Turbo deck, but there's a method to the madness here.
After 6 rounds and nearly 8 hours of intensive play, the Top 8 has been determined!
1 Lucas.#0417 (5 - 1) 2 Frank Castle | Nate#8824 (5 - 1) 3 HyperBeam#8462 (5 - 1) 4 carl waite#1355 (5 - 1) 5 KizaruTengu#0095 (5 - 1) 6 Jazz#2704 (4 - 2) 7 firedragon#1439 (4 - 2) 8 WorldGoneMaad#2403 (4 - 2) In Round 4, Carl Waite and HyperBeam square off in a multi-leveled mirror match for the ages. Both duelists are currently in the top 10 in the current split of DGz's War League, and both are playing Thunder Dragon Chaos Control decks!
The first time I got to talk to Logan Johnson about his deck this weekend, my initial reaction was something along the lines of, "so it's like, Warrior Toolbox, right?" In retrospect, I couldn't have been more wrong.
Attendance at the inaugural FLC today capped out at 41 people after a couple of drops, making this the largest online Goat tournament since last Autumn's DGz War League.
